On the 24th of January, 2025, the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) ably led by the Acting Executive Secretary, Dr. Vetty Agala convened the first Gateway Forum Meeting for the year 2025, bringing together key stakeholders in healthcare delivery. This landmark BHCPF meeting, held under the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, and the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, aimed to strengthen collaboration and alignment among implementing agencies of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
The forum featured participants from:
• Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board
• Rivers State Hospital Management Board
• Rivers State Ministry of Health
• Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP)
• Rivers State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System
• Rivers State University Teaching Hospital
Objectives of the Meeting
1. Fostering Synergy and Collaboration: To ensure alignment and effective teamwork in implementing the BHCPF objectives and standards.
2. Addressing Challenges: To identify and resolve common challenges affecting the implementation of the BHCPF.
3. Leveraging Institutional Resources: To explore ways of maximizing existing institutional resources for the efficient execution of BHCPF gateways.
4. Enhancing Quality and Satisfaction: To develop joint quality improvement initiatives and strategies for enhancing patient satisfaction.
This pivotal gathering underscore the commitment of the Rivers State Government to providing equitable, efficient, and accessible healthcare for all. The Honourable Commissioner for Health, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mekele Igwe, commended the stakeholders for their active participation and encouraged them to work collaboratively in driving the state's health agenda forward.
