RIVCHPP Participates in Strategic National Engagement to Strengthen Health Insurance Access in Rivers State

The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), under the able leadership of its Executive Secretary, Dr. Vetty Agala, participated in the One-Day Strategic Engagement Meeting with other State Social Health Insurance Agencies (SSHIAs), organized by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) at Meethaq Hotels, Abuja.

The meeting, which brought together CEOs of SSHIAs across the country, was convened to review progress, address challenges, and develop actionable strategies to strengthen the health insurance ecosystem in Nigeria. Key agenda items included:

Financial Management: Reflection on the Auditor General’s report, emphasizing the need for enhanced transparency, financial efficiency, and accountability in health insurance operations.

Enrollment: Strengthening data management systems to improve the enrollment process, ensuring accurate, efficient, and comprehensive coverage across all demographics.

BHCPF Implementation: A detailed review of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, highlighting progress achieved, persisting challenges, and strategic solutions to enhance effective implementation.

Key Next Steps and Recommendations: Developing practical recommendations and immediate actions to improve health insurance delivery, with a focus on reaching the most vulnerable populations.

Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Agala reaffirmed RIVCHPP’s commitment to ensuring that residents of Rivers State, especially the poor and vulnerable, have equitable access to quality healthcare.

“This engagement has provided a comprehensive roadmap for improved coordination, transparency, and expanded coverage. With the continued support of stakeholders, Rivers State is poised to make significant strides toward achieving universal health coverage,” Dr. Agala stated.

RIVCHPP extends its profound appreciation to His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, whose visionary leadership and unwavering support have been instrumental in advancing health insurance initiatives across the state. Governor Fubara’s dedication, through the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, ensures that no resident is left behind in the journey toward a healthier Rivers State.

The meeting concluded with a robust action plan to improve the efficiency of health insurance operations nationwide, ensuring that all Nigerians, regardless of their socio-economic status, have access to the healthcare they deserve.
