The Executive Secretary (Ag) of RIVCHPP also made it clear that the health insurance scheme is open for all persons who live or do business or work in the state, whether in the formal or informal sector.
Dr. Agala explained that those who do not meet up with the criteria for vulnerability can also enrol for the different packages of the agency on payment of specified amounts of money, ranging from #15,000 annually, to enable them to access quality health care services when and where needed.
The boss of RIVCHPP also emphasised that the State Ministry of Health is very conscious of the health needs of the public without discrimination of any sort, saying that it was what informed her agency to begin the enrolment of persons in the Correctional centres.
Dr. Agala reiterated that with the enrolment of the inmates, they can now access quality health care services, including surgeries for free, as part of the vulnerable population of the state, under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund.
The Executive Secretary of RIVCHPP then announced that presently th agency is embarking on a sensitisation/awareness campaign to all the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government towards bringing on board its scheme those on government workforce.
Dr. Agala then used the opportunity of the flag off to promise that her agency would liaise with relevant authorities and stakeholders to put to use the well-equipped but non-functional health facility sited around the premises of the Port Harcourt Custodian Centre to cater to the health needs of not only inmates of the centre but also those who live within the vicinity or the catchment area of the centre.
On his part, Comptroller of the Correctional Services in Rivers State, Felix Madumere said that the enrolment of inmates of the Custodian Centre into the health insurance scheme is very beneficial, as it would help alleviate one of the teething challenges faced by the centre.
Mr. Madumere used the medium to thank the state government, Dr. Agala and her team, and all partners that made the enrolment a reality, pledging the unalloyed preparedness of his men to see to it that all the inmates at the various Custodian Centres in the state are enrolled into the insurance scheme.
