RIVCHPP DELIVERS ON GOVERNOR FUBARA'S MANDATE OF AFFORDABLE QUALITY HEALTHCARE FOR RIVERS RESIDENTS.

The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), Dr.  Vetty Agala has declared that the agency is delivering on Governor Siminialayi Fubara's mandate of ensuring that all Rivers residents can have access to quality and affordable healthcare services without suffering financial hardship.

Dr. Agala,  made the declaration in an address at the flag-off of enrolment of Officers and members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Rumuokoro park in Port Harcourt on Wednesday,  15th July,  2026.

The Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP,  who described transport workers as the backbone of Rivers economy,  said that most of the transporters do not have access to quality and affordable healthcare, reminding that it is this gap that RIVCHPP is set to fill.
Dr. Agala announced that RIVCHPP is about welfare,  access,  dignity,  and protection, assuring everyone that with RIVCHPP all Rivers residents and their dependents can always have access to quality healthcare services without the fear of huge payments when sickness comes.

The boss of the state social health insurance agency clarified that the doors of RIVCHPP are open for people to come in and register,  choose a provider close to where they live, so as to enjoy the robust benefits that the programme is designed to serve.

Dr. Agala also the medium to thank leaders of NURTW for believing in the vision,  urging them to mobilise their members to enrol into RIVCHPP's various  programmes.

She then called on the drivers, leaders, and passengers of the union to participate in the screening exercise and enrol into the programme in order to protect themselves and their families.

Earlier in  his welcome remarks,  the Chairman of NURTW,  Rivers State Council,  Comrade Boma Tom-George urged transporters to learn to take care of themselves by prioritising their health,  saying that it is only the living that can struggle to provide for dependents.

Comrade Tom-George commended Governor Siminialayi Fubara for making the health insurance agency functional in the state,  saying that its goals synchronises with the vision of his leadership in NURTW to see that avoidable deaths among members are reduced drastically.

Giving a health talk with an overview of RIVCHPP activities at the event,  Dr.  Juliet Aleme,  head of planning,  research and statistics department of RIVCHPP,  encouraged drivers to change their sedentary lifestyle and create moments to walk, and always go for health checks.

The flag-off featured enrolment,  medical outreach,  and capturing for national identification number,  free of charge,  by RIVCHPP officials.
