MOH KEY IN IMPLEMENTATION OF BHCPF: PARTICIPATE IN GATEWAY MEETING.

Medical Officers of Health (MOH) have been described as key agents in the implementation and actualization of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) .

The Executive Secretary (Ag) of Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), Dr Vetty Agala, who made the declaration during the 2nd quarter meeting of Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) gateway forum in Port Harcourt, emphasised that the contributions of medical officers of health have immensely helped the actualization of the goals for which the funds are made available.

Dr. Agala reiterated that though the medical officers of health are not statutory members of the BHCPF gateway forum, they were invited to be part of the 2nd quarter meeting due to how elemental their assignment is towards the implementation of the BHCPF through oversight of primary healthcare providers in the universal access to quality healthcare services at the LGA level.

Some of the Medical Officers of Health present at the meeting pointed out some ways to bring about the efficient utilisation of the BHCPF, expressing optimism that if they are involved at the different stages of the BHCPF, they will ensure that funds are properly channeled for the purposes for which they are disbursed.

Dr. Keke Rammyson, who is the chairman of the MOH in Rivers State, even opined for the inclusion of a representative of the MOH in the newly created and inaugurated BHCPF gateway coordination Secretariat to be able properly cascade the policy decisions of the various gateways to the MOH in all the 23 LGAs of the State.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the 4 gateways and other stakeholders in the health sector including representatives of Clinton Health Access Initiative ( CHAI).
