BASIC HEALTHCARE PROVISION FUND CAPACITY BUILDING FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

"The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme, under the leadership of the Ag. Executive Secretary Dr Vetty Agala in collaboration with the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, led by the Executive Secretary Prof. Kinikanwo Green recently concluded an intensive 7-day capacity building training for healthcare providers at the primary healthcare level. The focus of this comprehensive workshop was on the operationalization of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), a critical component of Nigeria's efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

Primary healthcare providers from across Rivers State gathered to enhance their knowledge and skills in implementing the BHCPF. The training covered a wide range of topics, including the fund's objectives, operational guidelines, and best practices for its effective utilization.

Key areas addressed during the sessions included:
1. Overview of the BHCPF and its significance in improving healthcare access
2. Eligibility criteria and enrollment processes for beneficiaries
3. Financial management and accountability in fund utilization
4. Quality assurance measures in healthcare delivery
5. Data management and reporting mechanisms
6. Integration of BHCPF with existing health insurance schemes

The interactive training employed various methodologies, including lectures, group discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, ensuring that participants gained both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.

This initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening the primary healthcare system in Rivers State and improving access to quality healthcare services for all residents, particularly the vulnerable populations.

As the program concludes, healthcare providers are now better equipped to implement the BHCPF effectively, which is expected to have a positive impact on the overall health outcomes in Rivers State."
