AugustIn its bid to expand coverage and reach out to everyone resident in the state, especially those in the rural areas, the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) partners the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rivers State Council.
At a 2-day capacity building workshop organised by the Association between 7th-8th August, 2026, in Port Harcourt, the Executive Secretary of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Agala urged the local government chairmen to see the enrollment of their citizens into RIVCHPP's programmes and packages as a legacy that they can leave behind.
Dr. Agala said that leadership is supposed to be about the people and that a healthy population will strengthen productivity and improve the economy.
RIVCHPP's Executive Secretary informed the August gathering that RIVCHPP is a scheme by Sir Siminialayi Fubara for all residents of the state to have access to quality and affordable healthcare services without passing through financial hardship whenever they have healthcare needs.
Dr. Agala reiterated that the scheme is open for everyone in the state: those who are employed by all strata of government, those in private organisations, self-employed people, artisans, and others are eligible.
The boss of RIVCHPP said that currently vulnerable populations are on the BHCPF scheme and for as low as N25000 per year, anyone else who gets enrolled would have access to quality healthcare services at any health facility of their choice.
Dr. Agala then called on all local government chairmen, traditional rulers, community development committees, clergymen, and all well-meaning citizens to ensure that all their people get enrolled into RIVCHPP's programmes and packages so as to get protected from catastrophic financial hardship when health challenges arise.
